Get Involved

One co-op. Many ways to take part.

Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op brings people, organizations, properties and investment together to grow community-owned renewable energy in Alberta.

You can become a member, invest in projects, volunteer your time, host an installation, switch your utilities or work with us to develop a renewable energy project.

Start with what works for you

There’s no single path into the co-op, and you don’t have to choose only one.

You might start by volunteering, switching your utilities or exploring a project for your property. You might become a member and help shape the co-op’s direction, then invest when an eligible opportunity becomes available.

Many people participate in more than one way. A volunteer can become a member. A member can become an investor. A host can work with us on future projects.

Your involvement can grow over time. For now, simply choose the best place to begin.

Find your starting point

  • Become a Member

Become a part-owner of Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op and have a voice in its future. Alberta residents can purchase a $100 lifetime membership share, vote in co-op decisions and access eligible investments.

A good place to start if: You want an ongoing role in the co-op and a voice in how it is governed.

  • Invest

Help finance community-owned renewable energy projects across Alberta. Eligible BVGEC members can invest through specific share offerings, with the potential for financial returns while supporting local development.

A good place to start if: You want to become a member and invest in BVGEC’s renewable energy portfolio.

  • Volunteer

Contribute your time, experience or professional skills to a project, committee or area of the co-op’s work. Opportunities may be short-term or ongoing and are matched with BVGEC’s current priorities and needs.

A good place to start if: You want to contribute directly, meet others and learn more about community energy.

  • Host

Turn your property into part of Alberta’s renewable energy infrastructure. BVGEC works with suitable businesses, organizations and property owners to plan, develop and finance renewable energy installations.

A good place to start if: You have a suitable property and are interested in hosting a renewable energy project.

  • Switch Your Utilities

Support community energy through something you already pay for. When you purchase electricity, natural gas or internet through Rocky Mountain Community Energy, a portion of the proceeds helps fund BVGEC’s work.

A good place to start if: You want a straightforward, ongoing way to support community-owned renewable energy.

  • Project Management

Move a renewable energy project from an early idea toward implementation. BVGEC works with organizations to provide tailored planning, coordination, financing support and community engagement through delivery.

A good place to start if: Your organization has a renewable energy opportunity and needs a partner to move it forward.
