Contribute to Alberta’s renewable energy future
BVGEC Membership: Become an owner. Have a voice.
Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op is owned and governed by its members. By purchasing a lifetime membership share, you become a part-owner of the co-op and gain a voice in how it grows, operates and invests in community-owned renewable energy.
Membership is a one-time purchase of $100.
What membership means
BVGEC is a cooperative, which means its members are its owners.
Unlike a traditional company, voting power isn’t based on how much money someone has invested. Every member receives one vote and an equal opportunity to participate in the co-op’s governance.
Members elect the Board of Directors, vote on important decisions and help guide the future of BVGEC and its renewable energy work.
As a BVGEC member, you can:
HAVE A VOICEAttend meetings of members, vote on eligible decisions and help shape the co-op’s direction.
Elect the boardVote in Board of Directors elections and, if eligible, put your own name forward to serve.
Stay informedReceive co-op updates and review governance documents, annual reports and financial information shared with members.
Access investment opportunitiesEligible members can apply to purchase investment shares when BVGEC launches a new share offering.
Support the co-op’s workHelp strengthen the organization behind community-owned renewable energy projects across Alberta.
Become a part-ownerHold a lifetime membership share and become an owner of Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op.
The difference between membership and investing
Purchasing a membership share makes you an owner of the co-op, but it is not an investment in a specific renewable energy project.
Your $100 membership share:
Gives you one vote
Provides lifetime membership
Does not pay dividends
Helps fund BVGEC’s operational and administrative costs
Investment shares are offered separately and help finance renewable energy projects. These shares may provide a financial return, but they are only available through specific offerings and involve additional eligibility requirements and risk.
You must first become a BVGEC member before applying to invest.
Who can become a member?
Membership is open to individuals who:
Are Canadian residents
Are at least 18 years old
Purchase one $100 lifetime membership share
Submit a completed membership application
Are approved for membership by BVGEC’s Board of Directors
Businesses, non-profits and other Canadian organizations may also be eligible for membership. An organization must appoint an individual representative who is at least 18 years old.
Multiple people from the same household may each become individual members. Each approved member purchases their own membership share and receives one vote.
Please note that while membership is open to Canadian residents, only Alberta residents are eligible to invest in BVGEC. Investment opportunities are offered separately and are subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of each offering.
